Engineers of Tomorrow

Red Alert have been committed to developing young people through apprenticeships for over ten years. We are very proud of our track record of supporting apprenticeships and now employ five fully qualified engineers who joined us as apprentices.

The company culture at Red Alert is very much focused on the continual learning and honing of skills for all employees, regardless of age. We strongly believe in investing in the development of all of our team. It is this thinking that has allowed us to bring in more mature trainees and cross train them in line with the Red Alert standard.

As well as hands on experience, apprentices also benefit from formal training at colleges in London and Birmingham.

Recently we entered two of our apprentices into the Engineers of Tomorrow competition, held at the International Fire and Security Exhibition (IFSEC) at the Excel in London. The event organisers said the competition had its biggest turn out ever, with 64 apprentice engineers taking part. Competitors were given 90 minutes to install a security system and detect any faults it may have. The competition is part of a plan to help increase talent in the electro-technical sector.

The two apprentices who took part on behalf of Red Alert, Conor and Joe, have been training with the company for just over a year. Although they did not win their heat, Red Alert is immensely proud of their efforts. When asked if they enjoyed taking part in the competition Joe said, “It was a really brilliant and great experience to work in front of such a large crowd of experts. We’ll be back next year!”

If you are considering a career as technician in the security industry talk to local security companies to get a feel for what they offer. Ask if you can gain some work experience to get a feel for ‘a day in the life of an engineer’. It’s important that you find a company who will give you formal training at college as well as the opportunity of real hands on experience. Just be careful not to get stuck performing menial tasks which will greatly limit how much you learn.

Although opportunities are highly sought after, if you are really focussed and determined you are guaranteed to succeed!

Red Alert have vacancies at different times throughout the year so an email to our HR department hr@redalertuk.com is always worthwhile.
