Red Alert takes on more than the contractor bargained for!

Red Alert has successfully completed a major fire alarm installation at a top London art gallery – despite originally only being taken on to install the intruder alarm and CCTV system.

Scomac, main contractor for the Whitechapel Gallery’s ambitious £13m scheme to expand into the former Whitechapel Library next door, asked the Red Alert engineers if they knew anything about fire alarms after the company doing the work ran into problems.

Red Alert engineers Andrew Wilson and Matt Richards, already doing their normal top quality job with the intruder alarm system, were quick to reassure the gallery of Red Alert‘s equally good credentials in fire detection.

They set to work, sorted the problems and completed the job throughout the complex, four-storey art gallery, as well as installing the intruder alarms and CCTV system that Red Alert had originally been brought in to tackle.

Red Alert Technical Manager Andy Peddle said that an impressed Scomac had since asked Red Alert to tender for other jobs and had already given them the contract for security work in another art gallery, this time in Battersea.

“It all goes to show that Red Alert’s best salesmen are the engineers who are doing the job,” commented Managing Director Clive Gawler.
